Dear Mr. Shur,September 5, 1998

Despite your desire to inform me that my dispute with NIU is a closed matter, I am now making a formal request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Therefore, you are compelled to respond in a proper manner to this request. Failure to do so in a timely and forthright manner will be viewed as indicative of your (NIU’s) pattern of noncompliance with the law.
I am requesting copies of all records pertaining to the Geography department’s efforts to comply with John E. La Tourette’s (President of Northern Illinois University) memorandum of August 6, 1991 entitled, "Computer Access for Persons with Disabilities" sent to John Tuecke and Cc’d to you personally. Such records should include, but are not limited to, purchase orders for adaptive equipment, software, etc. to meet the needs of the disabled, work orders to install and maintain such equipment, software, etc., and a list of all such adaptive technology purchased, installed and maintained on the reserved adapted computer for each new and refurbished laboratory and classroom with computer technology under the direct and/or partial jurisdiction of the Geography department and/or Academic Computing Services in Davis Hall on the NIU main campus. If other offices have such jurisdiction, please include such pertinent information as stated above related to those offices. These requested records should be inclusive of the dates August 6, 1991 to the present. If more clarification is necessary, please do not hesitate to ask for it.
The information you provide, if fully accurate, will help me considerably to understand the merits of your May 19th letter. I’d like to make a further request that you send me the results of the investigations you cited in your May 19th letter done by CAAR, the Affirmative Action Office, Gary Gresholdt (504 compliance), etc. since I have NO record of these investigations having taken place. Thank you.

Sincerely;

James G. Wilson
