Definitely depends on the animal. Ghost was 22, or so.

Would she have lived longer if she had stayed out, mingling
with the others? I don't know - but I do know she was prone
to infections; I also know that she did not want to be alone,
so it was quite lucky that her oldest companion from her
original home (her granddaughter) was also positive, and when
Ishtar died I found another companion cat for her.

If Amelia or Motley, for example, were to come up positive,
they would be *ecstatic* to be isolated.

So - whether isolation is more or less stressful is wholely
dependent on the cat in question.
